Ch Ch Ch Changes.....

Happy Monday!

Did the title of my post get this song stuck in your head? Because now it's stuck in mine.

How was your weekend? Mine was great! The hubby was off on Saturday and it was nice to have him home the entire day.

As usual, we had a pizza Sunday night with half pepperoni and half cheese on a whole wheat crust. I layered American Cheese on the bottom and mozzarella cheese on top. The mixture of cheese brought this pizza to a whole new level.

Let's back up to Saturday, though, shall we?

I've had long hair for forever.  I alternate between shoulder length hair and oh my goodness it's so long I have to cut it.  When I get to the point where I can't stand it long anymore I go to the Hair Cuttery, pay $13.00 and call it a day.  Well, it turns out that I've had a gift certificate for an upscale salon and it was time for me to use it.  I wanted something different and drastic.  It was time for me to go short.

I went from looking like this.....

to looking like this....

Eeep! It's so short, but I kinda love it.  I really wanted to go shorter, but I figured this was less drastic.  I'll try this out for a little while and see how it goes.

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

I take the train to get to work and most days I meet up with a friend and walk to work with her.  We work for the same company but in different buildings.  Today she has the day off so I was flying solo.  I decided to turn on my IPod and enjoy the walk.   It was awesome!! I was bopping my way to work and by the time I got there, I was in such a great mood.

Today, I'm thankful that I was able to enjoy the walk, enjoy the music and have a few moments to "rock out" before I started my day.  While I have visions of looking cool, the reality is I probably looked like this....

It Started Off Like a Normal Weekend.....

Happy.....wait....what day is it? Oh right - happy Wednesday!

The past few days have been a whirlwind.  The weekend started off like any normal one with one exception - on Friday night, we officially said sayonara to the little guy's high chair.  He's now in a booster seat and eats at the table with us.  And, being the picture-loving person that I am, I had to capture that moment right as he was eating his dinner.

On Saturday, we took him to the park and met up with my brother and his kids.  No lie, there were at least 75 kids there.  Halfway through our trip, the little guy wanted a snack and I gave him some Cheerios.

Less than 24 hours later, the little guy was sick.  High fever, tired all the time, in a sad mood kind of sick.  I took him to the doctor's on Monday and she told me there were blisters on his throat and that he most likely picked something up at the playground.  Fantastic.  I take the little guy out for a fun day and this is what happens to him.

Thankfully he's on the mend, the fever is gone and all that remains are the blisters and occasional moments of being extra sleepy.  The one benefit of him having the virus is that he gets to eat ice cream whenever he wants.  He sure doesn't mind that!

Last night I had some turkey meatloaf and some cheesy broccoli.  The little guy loves broccoli like I love chocolate cake.  I don't get it, but I'm not going to complain either!

Question of the Day:
Were you sick a lot as a little kid?

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Last night was one of those nights.  The kind of night that made me want to fall asleep and have a do-over.  It started off with a phone call from the hubby at 4:45 telling me that he was going to put the little guy down for a nap because he hadn't slept well at the babysitters.  That's usually a sign the night isn't going to go well.

I waited until 6:10 before I woke the little guy up and he was miserable.  I hated to have to wake him, but if I let him sleep longer, there would be a good chance the wouldn't sleep well during the night -  the little guy goes to bed at 8:00.

From 6:15 until 7:00 he was whining and semi-crying and of course, wouldn't eat.  I tried singing to him, talking to him - nothing was working.  Finally, I asked him if he wanted to go to his playroom and watch a Sesame Street DVD.  He readily agreed and as soon as it started, he was asking for some crackers and applesauce.

That was all he ate for "dinner" but the hubby and I were so thankful that he calmed himself down enough to eat a little something that we did a dance.  We may or may not have looked like this.

It's very upsetting to only have a few hours with the little guy as it is, and when he's in a particularly sad mood it's even worse.  Oh well - here's to another day and hoping that he'll be in a much better mood when I see him today.

Italian Bread Pizza

Happy Wednesday!

I've been having the biggest craving for pizza, and I love experimenting with different ways to make it.  Case in point:  bagel pizza, white pizza, pizza casserole, inside out pizza, bubble up pizza, zucchini pizza boats ...you get the idea!

I was craving some french bread pizza but all they had at the store was Italian bread.  I bought some anyway, cut it open and tore out almost all of the bready goodness.  I popped it in a 350 degree oven and let it get crispy.

After about 10 minutes, I took them out of the oven and added pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni and cheese and they went into the oven again for another 10 minutes.

The house smelled yummy and I was greeted with these:

As soon as the little guy saw it, he wanted to try it, hence the half piece pictured above.  I think he's a pizza fanatic like his momma.

Blurry but you get the idea!
One bite in and I was hooked, although next time I'll use actual French bread. I couldn't get enough of the crunchy crust, and neither could the hubby or little guy. Another fast and easy dinner to add to the list!

Chicken and Turkey Bacon Stromboli

Happy Monday!

How was your weekend?  Mine was great!  It was my first weekend not working at Weight Watchers.  It felt nice not to rush out of the house at 7:30 in the morning.  The little guy, hubby and I ate breakfast as a family and hung out in the playroom before the hubby had to go to work.  It was fantastic!

On Sunday, we headed out to church and then came back and put the little guy down for a nap.  While he was napping, I got started on dinner.  It was only 9:30 in the morning, but with the temps we've been having, I figured it was better to use the oven earlier in the day rather than later.

I was in the mood for a stromboli, so I chopped up some leftover chicken cutlet, cooked turkey bacon and mozzarella cheese, wrapped it up and baked it for 15 minutes.

Freshly baked
When it was time to eat it, I sliced it up and microwaved it for a few minutes.  Delicious!

The little guy wasn't a fan, but the hubby and I enjoyed it!

As the little guy gets older, I'm realizing his need to get out some energy.  We're having another heatwave here in Philly, and it makes getting outdoors difficult.  Yesterday the hubby and I decided to brave the heat and we went to a playground to let the little guy run around and enjoy himself.  To say that he loved it is an understatement!

We only stayed out for an hour, but that was enough for the little guy to release the energy and take a nice long nap when he got home.

The hubby poured water over his head to cool him off.  The little guy thought it was hysterical!

We also did some updating of the playroom, but I'm saving that for another post!

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Sometimes on Wednesday nights it hits me that I have a Thankful Thursday post to do in the morning and I mentally go through the week to think about what I'm thankful for.  The first thing I think about is the little guy, the hubby, my family, etc., but I mention them all the time.  For me, the whole point of Thankful Thursday is to look outside the every day things I'm thankful for and find joy in the little things.  I found that joy last night on he way home from work.

While my friend and I were walking to the train station, there was a school bus that was broken down on the side of the road.  There were quite a few kids on there (4th-5th grade age) who were sticking their heads and hands out of the window asking the passers by for high-fives and fist bumps.

Some of the people ignored the kids, but my friend and I?  We ran through the line and gave them fist bumps because, well, why not?

It was pretty awesome to see the kids with that much energy and enthusiasm.  Today, I'm thankful that I got to experience it.  I'm also thankful that they reminded me not to take life too seriously.  Thanks, kids!

Semi Big Announcement (Well for Me Anyway!)

At the end of June I mentioned that things had gotten a little bit stressful in the New Weigh of Life household.  Today, I'm here to tell you what's been going on.

Lately I've been missing my little guy.... a lot.  Summers at work are as boring as watching paint dry - literally.  I asked my boss if there was something I could do - work extra hours, take a shortened lunch, anything so that I could spend some more time with the little guy.  He's growing up so fast and learning so much and I don't feel part of it.  Unfortunately my boss couldn't give me what I requested (although she did promise to let me leave earlier on Fridays in the summer) and all I could do was cry.

After some thought, I realized something had to give.  While I can't quit my job or work part-time, there was something else taking time away from my son.....working at Weight Watchers on Saturdays.  It was only for 2 hours in the morning, but the constant rushing around and having some place to be every day of the week had finally taken its toll.  Even though I knew my time with Weight Watchers was coming to an end, I didn't want to give up on my members.  I've been working there for the past six years and I've grown so attached to them, which is the reason why, after I moved 40 minutes away, I continued to drive down there each and every Saturday.  (Well that and the fact that my mom lives right around the corner from the meeting which means she got to spend time with the little guy).

I mustered up the courage to tell my manager (who is a HUGE passive aggressive person and hard to get along with) and this past Saturday was my last meeting.  After being there for six years, the only thing she could say to me was "you are not to tell anyone you are leaving.  The members would be upset".  Okay lady, you think after six years I was going to up and leave without saying goodbye?  Haha yeah right.

I'm going to stay on to work as a sub when needed and I'm still following the program but I'm not committed to being there every.single.Saturday. What a breath of fresh air!

The hubby, little guy and I decided to celebrate with some homemade pizza that I semi-burned.  Oops.

The little guy ate it anyway and told me "it's good, mama."  I just love that boy!

What's your favorite pizza topping?

I've Been Up To A Lot!

Happy Monday!

How was your weekend? Mine was both productive and relaxing. Honestly, it was awesome having some time off from work and blogging. If nothing else, I learned I need to take more days off from work. I mean really, why not?

So, since I haven't been around the blogosphere for quite some time, let me show you what I've been up to!

Our way-too-hot Fourth of July started with a family walk.
Yes, my hair was in braided pigtails and yes, I'm almost 30.Let's not talk about it.
We walked smack into a parade, which was kind of neat to see.  The little guy got a kick out of the fire engines.  After about 15 minutes, we were back inside reaping the wonder that is air conditioning.

Later in the afternoon, we headed to my in-laws where the little guy ate his first ear of corn.  He really enjoyed it and kept asking for more after he took a bite and saw there were no kernels.  It was pretty hilarious!  I'll have to teach him how to rotate the ear of corn, but for now he was content with me doing it for him.

On Thursday, the hubby, little guy and I went out to search for a new sofa.  We've been trying to make our downstairs room a playroom for the longest time.  We finally got our tushes in gear, got the last of the boxes out of the room and went furniture shopping.  I thought for sure finding a sofa would be easy.  We were looking for something not too expensive (the little guy is going to be all over it anyway), comfortable and size-appropriate.  We weren't too concerned about color either, since we figured we could get a slip cover for it.  By the 4th store, I was ready to tear my eyes out.  Either things were too expensive, not the right size or downright uncomfortable.  Thankfully the little guy was amazingly pleasant during the entire experience.

While the hubby was in the Raymour &; Flanigan outlet, the little guy and I amused ourselves in the car.  He found my sunglasses fascinating!

We ended up finding a sofa we loved and had it delivered the same day.  Thank God!

Friday morning the little guy and I went to the local library where there was a performer by the name of Mr. Scott.  The little guy got a real kick out of him.  See that pink line he's standing over?  The kids were supposed to sit behind it so that Mr. Scott had enough room to perform.

While we were away, the hubby was putting the finishing touches on the playroom.  The toys were moved, the TV was mounted to the wall and we were able to relax on the sofa.

See the guitar?  I wanted to teach myself how to play it when I was in my early 20s.  Yeah, that never happened.  The little guy loves to strum the guitar and that's the only reason we still have it!

Now here I am at another Monday at work.  Thankfully the memories of the days off are getting me through it!

It's a Slow Monday

Happy Monday!

How was your weekend?  Mine went pretty well, despite the crazy heat wave.  I'm sure when winter comes and it's super cold I'll be complaining about that too :)

I was able to leave work a little bit early on Friday, which worked out well because I got to spend time with the little guy.

It's so hard to get pictures of him smiling - here he is while he's watching a video of himself laughing.  It cracks him up every time!

On Saturday night, I was jonesing for something quick, easy and delicious.  After a quick scan of the fridge and freezer, I came up with chicken and cheese quesadilla's with chipotle sour cream.

I took one huge whole wheat wrap and filled it with some cooked chicken (Perdue shortcuts, to be exact), a few pieces of turkey pepperoni and some 2% mozzarella cheese.  I cooked it on the stove-top until the cheese was melted.

While it was on the stove, I mixed some chipotle powder with some fat free sour cream.  Note to self:  even though you love, love, love spicy food, you went way overboard with the chipotle powder.  Lesson learned.

Now here we are, back at another Monday, but at least it's a short work week for me!  The other two ladies that sit near me are off this week on vacation.  It's making the day go by super slowly, but at least it gives me some time to get caught up on blog reading, right?
