Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Things have been a little stressful at the New Weigh of Life casa. I'm not going to get into it today because, well, today is a day to be thankful.

Today, I'm thankful for little acts of kindness. I had a particularly rough day at work the other day and when I came home, I saw these.

These are courtesy of the husband. I couldn't help but smile when I walked in the door and saw them on the table. Little acts of kindness really go a long way!

Question of the Day:
What are you thankful for today?

Until next time!

Smiles and Repeats

Happy Tuesday!

Things were so hectic yesterday - my mom's car was in an accident (thank God she wasn't even in the car) so most of the day was spent calling insurance companies, car rental companies and collision repair centers. Fun times! I kept telling my mom that she got in the best kind of accident she possibly could - someone backed into her parked car, no one was injured and the guy actually knocked on the door to tell her what happened.

On the food front, I've been eating a lot of the same things.  It seems that my standard lunch for the weekends are bagel thin pizzas.  They satisfy the pizza craving and make my tummy happy.  It's really a win/win situation.

In keeping up with my random posts about the little guy, he's getting cuter and cuter by the second (I may be a bit biased about that!)  He's repeating practically everything and asks questions non-stop.  People were right when they told me that every phase a child goes through is a mom's favorite phase.  I'm also told that it stops when they hit the teenage years....haha.

The hubby was kind enough to go grocery shopping for me last week.  When it comes to feeding the little guy, the hubby can be a stickler.  He's not a fan of giving him sweets all of the time and whenever the little guy has a piece of chocolate, the hubby just smiles and shakes his head.  Don't get me wrong - I'm not a fan of "chocolate all of the time" either, but once in a while is okay with me.

Imagine my surprise when I was unloading the grocery bags and found a 6 pack of cupcakes.  When I asked the hubby what they were for, he responded with "John picked them out so I bought them for him."  I think my eyes practically popped out of my head - that's so unlike him!  The little guy has been enjoying his cupcakes over the course of the week.  Even though he looks like his daddy, he eats cupcakes like his mommy - icing first and then cake if he feels like it!

Cupcake face!
The little guy really makes me laugh, and there are no shortage of smiles after he's finished his cupcake.

Question of the Day:
What's something that makes you smile?

Until next time!

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Is anyone else experiencing a heatwave like woah? It was 98 degrees here yesterday and 99 degrees today.  On days like this, I'm happy I don't have a job that requires me to be outside all day.  It's bad enough walking the 5 blocks to the train station!

This morning, as I was getting ready for work, I had one of my embrace yourself moments.  I've talked about my body image issues before on the blog, but if you're a new reader, the short story is that seeing myself for how I really am versus how I think I look is a struggle.

My general rule for work is that I won't wear sleeveless shirts or dresses because I don't like the way my arms look.  It's an area where I'm self conscious no matter how much I try to talk myself out of it.

Today?  Well, today was just different.  I put on my sleeveless dress and reminded myself that my body has done amazing things, and I wasn't going to be ashamed of my arms today.  Today, I am accepting myself where I am and loving myself for just being me.  And you know what?  That's what I'm thankful for today.

Here I am embracing myself this morning by taking a ridiculous picture in the women's bathroom at work.  I'm not a "take pictures in the bathroom" kinda girl, so bear with me on this one!

Embrace yourself where you are each and every day.

What are you thankful for today?

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday!

I'm late to the blog post today but it's mostly because I was thrown for a minor loop this morning.  The place where I usually park to get the train turned into a permit parking only zone.  I had to find another place to park, but it was somewhat difficult because it seems like everywhere is permit parking only.  It's just the transit system's way of trying to make you pay an extra $20 a month on top of an already steep monthly fee to take the train (to the tune of $127 a month).  The hubby assured me that $20 isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things but it's more about the principle for me.  I came into work not feeling like doing much of anything (I mean it is a Monday, after all! haha).

Anyway....

Yesterday was father's day so we took the little guy to the zoo.  It was crowded, but the weather couldn't have been more perfect.  The little guy gave his daddy a "world's greatest dad" t-shirt and hat, which the hubby proudly wore.

There were a lot of animals and exhibits we missed the last time we visited the zoo, so we had lots and lots of things to see!

We got up close and personal with a peacock....

....and we also allowed this guy to wear the hubby's hat.  It cracked us up!

As for the little guy, all he cared about were two things: seeing the large water fountain and getting a soft pretzel. Literally, he wanted to go to the zoo to see the "waaalller" a/k/a the water. Seriously.

Mission accomplished.

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday!

Today, I'm simply thankful for it being Thursday. For some reason, it seems like this week has drug on for forever so it's nice to know that there's only one more day left of the work week. Sweet!

Today I just can't help but smile. The weekend is right around the corner, the hubby and I are making progress on the family room and the weather is beautiful.

I'd Be Lying If.....

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are all enjoying being halfway through another week!

I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't liking filling in for the dean's secretary. The dean is incredibly relaxed, low key and an all around nice guy.

I'd be lying if I told you I didn't enjoy the view from the secretary's desk.  She sits on the top floor which overlooks the city. I don't have a window at my desk so I'm soaking up every moment up here.

I'd be lying if I told you I'm happy with the way my weight loss is going - up 0.2 one week, down 0.2 the next. It's frustrating!

I'd be lying if I told you I don't enjoy food shopping and making a food shopping list.  It's silly, but I love it!

I'd be lying if I told you I used mozzarella cheese when I made this pizza.  I only had deli cheese in the house and deli cheese is what was used.  I think I'll be making pizzas with this from now on.

I'd be lying if I told you the pizza was cooked in those pictures above. I took one bite and realized that the middle was still chewy so I had to put it back in the oven.  Oops!

I'd be lying if I told you that I hate the fact that no one is in the office right now :)

Question of the Day:
Finish the sentence - I'd be lying if I told you.....

Until next time!

Sentimental Mood

Happy Monday!

I have to start by saying that I don't have the photo editing software on this computer (I'm taking over for a colleague for the next two weeks while she in on vacation)so please excuse any flashes, craziness or general yuckiness of any pictures seen on this blog.  Secondly, I don't have any of my bookmarks on this computer, so there's a really good chance that I'll be less active on your blogs, but I promise I'll try to keep up!

With that out of the way.....

How was your weekend?  Mine went by fast (as usual) but I was very productive.  The hubby and I spent most of the little guy's morning nap cleaning out the basement room and crawl space to make room for our family room.  I can't get over how much crap I have saved over the last few years.  I mean literally, there were so many mementos of things I can't even remember now.  I got rid of so much stuff!  I tend to be a very sentimental person to a fault, so getting rid of things is a challenge for me.  Luckily, I was in one of those "I'm going to throw out anything that's in my way" kind of a mood so I tossed more than I kept.

With the heat we had this weekend, I wasn't about to make anything that involved turning on the oven, so I went with what I was craving - a taco salad.  I think my craving had something to do with the tacos we had last weekend.

In my salad went taco meet, tomatoes, cheese, buffalo sauce and sauteed red pepper.  It was amazing and kept me so full!

Question of the Day:
Would you consider yourself a sentimental person - do you keep mementos from things?

Until next time!

Thinning it Out

Happy Wednesday!

I found out a few days ago that starting Friday I'll be sitting at the secretary to the dean's desk for the next two weeks while she is on vacation.  Everyone keeps telling me what a wonderful opportunity it is...but me?  I'm not so sure.  I mean on the one hand, yes, it is an opportunity, but on the other, I hate going into a job not knowing everything there is to know.  By the time the secretary comes back, I'll probably just start getting into the groove of things.  Oh well - at the very least, it's a learning experience, right?

Productive Weekend

Happy Monday!

How was your weekend?  Mine was productive - I can't tell you the last time I actually felt productive when it comes to doing stuff in the house.  For the past six months or so, the husband and I have been talking about turning our downstairs room into a playroom for the little guy.  We came up with all of these fantastic ideas but have actually done nothing to the room to get it ready.  Right now, the room is filled with tons and tons of boxes - clothes, miscellaneous stuff - you name it, it's in there.  It's a mess, mostly because during the times I could get the room in order (aka while the little guy is napping), I also take a nap.  He really wears me out!

Yesterday the hubby suggesting cleaning out the room instead of napping and I'm so glad that I opted out of the nap - I was so productive!  The room is in much better shape than it was and it was satisfying to see progress.

The little guy woke up from his nap refreshed and soon after, it was time to make dinner.  We decided to make some tacos.  It was the first time the little guy had ever tried one and he liked it!

We used some diced tomatoes, cheese, and lettuce to make our tacos - we like to keep it simple!
